Q: Do you lose your pension if you have contributed for more than 15 years but have to opt for invalidity?

Print Topic

A: SSNIT’s role is to replace lost income for a worker, such as a permanent incapacitation that forces you to stop work. If you have to opt for invalidity due to a medical condition, your pension benefit is not available until you are 55 years. However, you can still apply for an invalidity pension. The medical board assesses your invalidity and then makes your pension available to you, irrespective of how long you have contributed. The condition is that you must have paid your contribution for at least 12 months in the last 36 months.
