Databank Ark Fund (ArkFund) is Ghana’s first and only ethical mutual fund. 1. What is Databank Ark Fund (ArkFund)?
Databank Ark Fund (ArkFund) is a conservative long-term mutual fund that seeks to achieve capital growth and income by integrating social, ethical and environmental considerations in the investment process.

3. What can I use an ArkFund investment for?
To cater for your long-term financial needs such as a home purchase/mortgage, retirement, etc. Charities, foundations and firms can also deploy ArkFund as a vehicle for meeting corporate social responsibility.

4. How does ArkFund work?
ArkFund pools funds from its shareholders and invests mainly in fixed-income and equity securities. The fixed-income instruments include Commercial Papers, Bankers Acceptances, Certificates of Deposit and Government debt obligations. The equity investments are shares of companies listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange and other regulated stock markets in Africa. The Fund does not invest in companies which produce alcohol or tobacco, manufacture and sell arms and ammunition, engage in the exploitation of animals and gambling, and whose activities negatively impact the environment.

5. What’s the minimum investment amount I can start with?
The minimum initial investment required to open an ArkFund account is GHC 50. We recommend that you follow a consistent investment plan to grow your money significantly. You can adopt a minimum monthly contribution of GHC 10 into your ArkFund account.

6. Can I decide where my money should to be invested?
No, the Fund manager is responsible for the portfolio construction and management. Shareholders are allotted with shares of ArkFund and thus do not have direct ownership of the underlying assets/investments of the Fund.

7. Can I access the funds in my investment anytime I need money?
Yes. While you can access your funds anytime, it is recommended that you allow your contributions to remain in the Fund for at least 4 years. This is to ensure that you realize maximum potential gains from your investment.

8. What returns do I make as an investor in ArkFund?
Returns in ArkFund are realized from changes in the Fund’s price (relative to the price at which you purchased it). For example, if you bought a share at GHC 0.15 and the current price is GHC 0.25, then the return on that share is GHC 0.25 – GHC 0.15 = GHC 0.10 (which translates to a return of 66.7%). All interest earned by the Fund’s investments is reinvested.

9. How old do I need to be to invest in ArkFund?
Investors must be 18 years or older. Anyone below that age will require a parent or guardian to open the account in trust for him or her. The parent or guardian will need to provide a valid ID of the ward (e.g., birth certificate, passport, NHIS card) along with the requirements mentioned below in question 10.

10. What do I need to sign up for ArkFund?
To sign up for ArkFund, you will be required to provide the following:

  • A valid photo ID (Ghana Card)
  • Passport size photographs
  • A copy of your utility bill
  • A completed mutual fund application form (available at any of our branch offices or at www.databankgroup.com)
  • The amount of money to be invested

11. Can I invest in ArkFund using an existing account?
Yes. You can maintain all your mutual fund investments in one Databank investment account. Simply provide the Databank Relationship Manager with your account number when you come in to invest in ArkFund.
